I have been asked at various meetings to report on what the season has been like for ‘Queen Breeding’ so here goes…
All of our colonies got off to a flying start and grew very quickly. The Nucs that we ‘over wintered’ suffered a 50% loss rate. Note we kept our Nucs exceedingly lean with very little extra food – this was deliberate so that only the strongest survived and therefore our future breeding stock was from a line frugal in winter. I have done this for three years in a row now for between ten to twenty Nucs. Continue reading
